Will This Describe Your Widow?
"They would look after her,” they often said
But things seem different now that he is dead.
They have their wives here to think about
And strangely wish his widow would sell out.
He owned the stock. He worked to make it pay
But widows owning stock are in the way.
Twere different had he lived, but he is dead.
This is a business which must move ahead;
Some very costly changes now are planned,
Changes his widow cannot understand.
It is too bad he died, but such is fate,
For dividends now the widow must wait.
Harsh thinking this, but 'tis the common way—
Remembrance scarce outlives the funeral day.
'Tis dangerous to trust a widow' s all
To any business which may change or fall.
When comes a crisis—even old time friends
Will vote against the widow's dividends.
